Arrive on Time. Achieve More.8 October 2024 (by Rachel Bradley McKay (Head)) |
We have noticed that the number of children arriving after the gate has closed has increased in the last few weeks. The register is taken at 8:50, but children need to be in class and ready to learn at this time which is why the gates are open from 8:40 to 8:45. School starts at 8:40. Most children are ready and waiting at the gate, or arrive in the first minute or so. Unfortunately, a few children are routinely arriving as the gate is closing or in the 5-10 minutes after that. This means they always miss out on the chance to get settled, they are losing out on their learning time and they are disrupting the learning of others.
At primary school, children often need our help to make sure they are punctual. Obviously, unexpected circumstances occasionally happen – every now and then the traffic lights might be against you, there might be a blockage in the road or walking pace may be slower than usual! These things do happen. However, if you are finding that you and your child are often arriving after the bell, then you may need to build in a buffer to your morning routine. It is easy to underestimate the actual time it takes to get coats and shoes on and leave the house. It is a good idea to be realistic with your time frames so that this doesn’t become a rush. Mornings can be stressful enough without the added pressure of feeling late.
We have breakfast club available on site to help reduce morning pressures. Get in touch to book a place – subsidies are available if funding is a challenge. If you feel you need any support with helping your child to be on time for school, please let us know so that we can help.
