Sun Safety1 July 2024 (by Hayley Armstrong (admin)) |
Summer has finally arrived and with it, we are enjoying some sunshine. Today seems to be a bit overcast but we are hopeful that the sun will put in another appearance before too long!
Please see below for 5 top tips to help us all stay safe in the sun.
- Apply sunscreen - The British Skin Foundation recommend a minimum SPF value of 50 with a star rating of at least 4 to protect against UVA rays. Apply this before school and teach your child how to reapply this properly themselves for when they are at school.
- Wear loose fitting clothing - Loose weave clothing worn on the arms and legs (such as cotton) can help to protect from the sun’s harmful rays.
- Provide a sun hat - This will help to protect the scalp from sunburn and helps to avoid overheating.
- Drink plenty of water - Staying hydrated is very important when it’s hot. Children have access to their water bottles at all times throughout the school day.
- Seek shade - Avoiding time in the sun during the hours when it’s at its strongest, 11am – 3pm is recommended. We are lucky to have plenty of shady areas in our school grounds so there are lots of options to make sure we stay out of direct sunshine.
