Making mistakes leads to success
What is psychological safety? "The belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes, and that the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking" Amy Edmondson, 1999
Edmundson’s research discovered that teams with better outcomes were making more mistakes. It later came to light that these teams were actually admitting more mistakes rather than making more than other teams. These results implied that feeling safe to admit mistakes leads to greater success.
What this means is that mistakes, or more importantly the confidence to admit our mistakes, makes us more successful. This is true in all areas of life, but can be very powerful to support children in their learning. We all make mistakes, so creating an atmosphere where we acknowledge and accept that fact can make us more successful. Take a look at the image for ideas and tips to support your child!
