Visitor for Wild Wednesday21 June 2023 (by Rachel Bradley McKay (Head)) |
We had an eventful Wild Wednesday today! A very observant year 1 pupil spotted a grass snake taking a dip in the pond. So that we did not disturb our visitor, we played on the field instead of in the nature area at lunchtime.
Perhaps we will see our visitor another time, although usually grass snakes are quick to hide when they hear humans nearby!
Here's some information from the Wildlife Trust:
Our largest snake, the grass snake, is particularly fond of wetland habitats, but can also be found in dry grasslands and in gardens, especially those with a pond nearby. During the summer, grass snake can be spotted basking in the sun near their favourite ponds or swimming in the water.
