Prime Drinks5 May 2023 (by Rachel Bradley McKay (Head)) |
Over the past few months Prime Drinks have become the latest craze - a must have product - for some young people. It has been aggressively marketed at young boys in particular and can often be seen as a status symbol due to the difficulty in getting hold of the drink.
Some Prime Drinks are highly caffeinated and are totally unsuitable for under 18s. Some drinks are being marketed as a ‘sports’ drink to aid hydration. We kindly ask that Prime Drinks of any type are not brought into school so that we are not promoting energy drinks for children. We know that not all types do contain caffeine, but don’t want to add to the status of such drinks. We are therefore also asking children not to use empty Prime bottles for their water. Thank you for your support. Hopefully, like most crazes, this one will also pass by quickly!
Today Beech Class were really helpful when discussing a range of drink options which they recommend for children. In school we encourage drinking water only during the day, but juices and squash can be included with lunch. Beech Class favourites included apple juice, pineapple juice, and of course orange juice – with the bits!
